Singing for Pleasure

The Singing for Pleasure group held their first meeting of the year on Monday 7 January.  There were 7 of us present and two apologies for absence.  This is very encouraging and numbers are slowly increasing.  We sang a variety of songs ranging from old English folk and music hall songs to Abba and Country & Western.  Also, as we had all very much enjoyed singing Christmas Carols at the December meeting, we decided to do a few more for good measure this time.
As it was the first meeting of the year, we began and ended with Auld Lang Syne and the lyric sheet we used gave translations of some of the more obscure Burns dialect – for instance how many people know what a guid-willie waught* or a pint-stowp^ is?
Between songs, we also took the opportunity to catch up with what we’d all been doing over Christmas, which contributed to a very enjoyable session.
So, don’t be shy, if you enjoy singing and good company, why not give the Singing for Pleasure Group a try.  Our next meeting is on Monday 4 February 2013 at 11.00am at the Parquesol Restaurant, El Morche.
