Despite walking against what felt at first like a blast from a Siberian winter, twenty six hardy walkers and six dogs met on Friday 8th Februaury
to walk along the old railway line at Zaffaria.
Horray! We made it at last. Two previous attempts were thwarted by torrential rain so it was with some trepidation that we attempted it for the third time. Once clear of the tunnel at the start of the walk, the sun felt warm as we rounded a bend and were sheltered from the wind. It was even warm enough to shed some layers: gloves, scarves and hats, unusual apparell in this sunny corner of southern Spain. Some gave up too soon and headed for the warmth of the nearest bar, others decided to head back two thirds of the way to the turning point, but the majority completed the planned walk of 10 kms.
We enjoyed the blue sky, almond blossom, stunning views across to Alcaucin and the coast and also some very good company, then headed back to El Cruce to enjoy some tapas and drinks and rest our sore feet.
