27 walkers and 5 dogs met for the inaugural outing of the U3A Wildside Walking Group on a beautiful, sunny morning for a circular walk along the river (sadly, no-one fell in as we crossed stepping stones half a dozen times), then up the valley and around before heading back up to Canillas de Albaida for a lovely lunch in the village square.
It was a particularly steep initial descent and equally tough ascent on the way back but everyone managed to get back in one piece with the promise of a beer at the end.
Next month’s walk thursday, october 10, will again start in the car park at canillas and will be of similar difficulty (or easiness, depending on your viewpoint) but about half an hour longer. it was lovely to meet fellow walking enthusiasts and i hope many of them will come again.
ps according to keith:
We covered 8.49km or 5.27miles in total. We started at 584m above sea level in Canillas, dropping to 452m at the Roman bridge, then we climbed to 721m at the highest point, returning back down to the Roman bridge and then back up to Canillas. Total time taken was 3h 09m at an average speed of 4.33kph, or 2.69mph.
